They say a picture is worth a thousand words. With nearly 2,200 pictures, there were a few standouts.
After working my way around the facade of the Doge's Palace taking pictures of the details, I found myself standing at the southwest corner of the building and thought, "Interesting perspective." I knelt down so I was even lower than normal and shot it at an upward angle that emphasized the converging lines.

This is quintessential Venice. Moored gondolas looking out over the canal on to Palladio's San Giorgio Maggiore. If you look closely, you will notice a pinkish-purple 'statue' out in the distance (middle right edge of the photo). Apparently the 'Pink Buddha' is a blow-up and is deflated in the evenings and blown back up each morning.

The dome of the Bapistery is quite beautiful but how do you capture it? I first tried leaning back holding the camera to my face but realized quickly that it wouldn't work (unfortunately I'm not Gumby). I thought about laying on the ground but counted that option out; the idea of laying the camera on the floor of the Bapistery and using the self-timer then came to me. It was a bit of trial and error: the first couple of shots, I got in the way; the next couple, I didn't quite get the shot I wanted. I think that the final one worked out the best. I noticed as soon as I picked up my camera that other folks rushed over to replicate what I had just done.

I think the expressions on Ava and Brady's faces say it all. The cookie shop was our third stop on our walking food tour of Trastevere and by the looks of it, the kids were pretty jazzed. I know their teachers back at home were too, as they each received a special box of Italian goodies from this cookie shop.

I call this set 'The Canals'. There is something so peaceful and tranquil when it comes to water. It didn't strike me until looking through my pictures that we saw a lot of canals and waterways! Click on the images to enlarge them.
